The Brisbane Water LAC covers an area of 1,029 square kilometres and is one of the largest Metropolitan Local Government areas.
The command stretches east to the Pacific Ocean (Tasman Sea), south to the Hawkesbury River, west to the Judge Dowling Ranges and north to the border with Wyong Shire at Ourimbah.
The Brisbane Water LAC centre is located approximately 80 kilometres north of Sydney.
The topography of the Command is diverse with features ranging from the coastal fringe of the Pacific Ocean to the east, natural waterways and hilly terrain of the hinterland and mountainous terrain in the west.
Approximately 95% of the population lives on the coastal fringe and hinterland, generally east of the Sydney to Newcastle (F3 Freeway).
Retailing, light industry, service and tourism are the major basis of the local economy in this Command. A large number of Central Coast residents commuting to Sydney each day for work has a significant impact on both the local economy, quality of life, community cohesion and criminal activity within the Command.
The population of the Brisbane Water Local Area Command according to the 2003 Census was in excess of 163,000. Over the past 5 years population growth has increased and will continue to increase, as available land for development becomes available. This growth will continue to be a significant factor in policing, social and community issues.
The address above is for the Gosford Police Station. There are three police stations within this LAC.
